Kayak at the Maas bank near Maasband

After a long, cold and snow filled winter I along with the rest of you are probably itching to get the canoe, kayak or tent and backpack out and get out there! My kayak talks to me every morning when I enter the garage “Hey, remember me?”. Am I the only one? :)

Okay, so I you have been a part of the club prior to this year you should notice a little difference, yes we added “& Outdoor Adventure Club”. What does that change, nothing really, it just opens us up to doing more activities and inviting other outdoor enthusiasts into the canoe and kayaking world and us into other outdoor adventures as well.

This group is about us and sharing our knowledge, experience with others and having a great time while protecting the wonderful resources both land and water around us. This year I want all of us to have a great time and make new friends. An exchange of ideas for events and trip leaders are needed to make this work. If you are interested in proposing ideas for activities or leading a trip please use the contact page.

See You Out There Soon.

Awesome Day for the Fall Float

The Sangamon Paddlers braved a chilly forecast and joined for the Annual Menard County Fall Foliage Float down the Sangamon. A small yet determined group left from Gudgel Bridge put-in and heading north to the New Salem take out. On the way we all enjoyed the cool morning air and the beautiful foliage that the surrounding trees offered up for us. We stopped as a group to take an unneeded break, as we quickly realized the river moved us swiftly halfway downstream in only 30 minutes time. After our break we continued on northward where Chili and Hot Dogs and other delectables were awaiting us along with a roasting warm campfire. Soon we were all partaking of the food prepared by the Petersburg Women’s Club (thank you so much ladies!) and sipping on hot cider. Great discussions followed by all the participants and fellow Sangamon Paddlers. If you participated… we hope you enjoyed… if you didnt… we hope to see you out there soon with us!
